Death at GEO's Central Texas Detention Facility

A federal inmate has died at GEO Group's Central Texas Detention Facility in San Antonio, according to a report last week from KENS 5 ("Heroin overdose suspected cause of inmates death,' May 21)

Guards found the 25-year-old dead in his cell early Wednesday morning. His family wants to know what went wrong. Federal authorities arrested Albert Martin Gomez Jr. On January 20. He was accused of making and passing fake $100 bills. He and a co-defendant were charged in a counterfeit-money ring.

Gomez was released, but was back at a federal holding facility in March, awaiting sentencing. Around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday guards found Gomez unresponsive. Sources say Gomez died from an apparent drug overdose, but nobody is talking.

Meanwhile, toxicology reports are pending. Bexar County records show Gomez was also arrested in 2005 on an assault charge.

The autopsy was completed, but details aren't being released. The Central Texas Detention Facility where Gomez was being held is operated by the GEO Group, Inc.  A spokesperson had no comment on the death, only to say it is under investigation.

While all deaths in custody deserve serious investigation, the obvious question in this case is how the drugs, assuming they were the cause of Mr. Gomez's death, were introduced into the facility.  We'll keep you posted on developments from this story.

GEO central texas holding facility

i was inmate at this facility and the faculty and the warden treat u like streigh dogs awaiting to be put to sleep. iI have two brothers  in there and they say the treatment is still the same. the warden wont let me see my brothers just because i was facilitated there for three days. this is what was going to happen sooner or later. The government of texas needs to stop using this privately owned facility. letters have been sent out to the governer of texas to react now before things escalade any worst IN and out of this facility.

geo-sa

i was an inmate here while pregnant and my child was born pre-mature and very ill due to the wrong medicines that the medical staff gave me, thank god she is a live but still small and has some lung/ heart complications now she is 4 months and yes they do treat you like animals

Shut this place down!

I was a co there for 2 years and the wort things and treatment go on in that facility. If you try to help the inmates that need help you are labeled "inmate friendly" and are deemed crooked or dirty, its a dirty unproffessional place that needs to be shut down. between dirty officers and the lack of everything iomportant that place is a death trap.

Abuse in Geo

I was an inmate there an was treated worse than an animal...nurses almost killed me twice with wrong an overdose of druggs with no food n the system and they tried to serve me food that was clearly on my chart as i was allergic to and then said i was being an unruley inmate because i refused food that would of killed me!

Seriously

While I believe that the stories everyone is saying on here can be true, it's hard to take most of the statements mentioned above seriously when the person complaining can't even take the time to spell half of their words correctly. The executives at GEO might take more of these comments into consideration if you guys could put a sentence together. Just a thought.

HELL ON EARTH

Let me spell this correctly so you can take me seriously...I was an inmate at GEO and I was incarcerated for 2 drug overdose occurances. Two male guards were arressted for bringing drugs into the facility. I also knew that 2 of the female guards were having intimate relationships. I was  informed by a female inmate that a male visitation guard approached her for oral sex in trade for a red pen. She did not do it but he did have inappropriate contact with her for longer visitation with her family. There is so much I could go on about. These people who run Geo know that we have no voice while we are at their mercy. The living conditions are horrible. There is mold covering the showers and ventilation systems. When we complain they have the male inmates paint over it. Most of the guards are in gay relationships with each other and some of the inmates as well. This is very unprofessional and degrading. This is why people are dying there.

my brother just died in this

my brother just died in this piece of crap place i hope they are shut down and are all punished for how they treat there inmates my brother did not kill himself !!!!!!!!!!
